Atheists Bible
Why does it seem like atheists know more about the bible than many Christians do?
I'm an atheist and I was raised in the church (southern baptist). It was through reading the bible, and researching it from other perspectives (historical, sociological, patriarchal, anthropological, etc) that MADE me realize it's bogus and WHY I became an atheist.
So why is it so many Christians claim atheists "don't know the bible" or whatever. Or..the stories that many Christians take out of the bible, they take out of context to suit their own agenda?
It was my association with several churches and study of the Bible which made me start questioning various aspects of the Bible, then of religion. Today, I see both of what they truly are and have gone elsewhere to find the answers to my questions. Knowing the Bible extensively and studying it would be the reason for my knowledge of it couple with today's internet and search engines one can find most anything for one's self.
For example there were a couple of questions concerning the Sabbath in YA which I found interesting, rather the answers were the really interesting part which sent me on a little research run. This exercise simply reminded me of how christians often are the one to take a quote out of context to make their point, even to other christians. So it is more a case of the "kettle calling the pot black" when it comes to taking out of context and twisting the meaning to fit one's needs.
If I don't know something in the Bible, I do still have one for references.
