Basic Bible Storying

A question for my fellow christians?

I am a believer and have been since childhood .. My problem is that my parents were not , so they never really taught me anything .. I went to sunday school as a child (on my own) , and I learned alot of the basic bible stories , but now as an adult , I feel like I have a bit of a disconnect . I sit in church every week tring to comprehend the siptures , and if I pick up the bible and just try to read , I cannot comprehend it .. I have to have someone break it down for me , and put it into everyday terms . When they start talking about the tribulation and all , I just don't get it .. I really want to understand , does anyone know of any bible studies (books) or anything else , that I can use for reference , that is in everyday terms , that would be easier for me to comprehend ?

Start with a good Women's Devotional Bible - and seek to read it every day...

Ask your Pastor if there are Discipleship studies he can help you with - and if he can help you find an elder Christian woman to act as your mentor.

You can download several versions of the Bible. It has an excellent search engine and pulls up cross references for every verse you are investigating.

Check and see if "Bible Study Fellowship" is teaching courses in your area. This is an intensive set of studies that is taught Nationwide.

Get a great Daily Devotional like the "Streams in the Desert" series. This helps take individual concepts and gives illustrations to help you apply the word to your life.
