Has anyone ever taken Wiccan 101 classes?
During the past two years I've come to the realization that I do believe in a higher power but do not believe in the bible. In my lifetime, I've been pushed towards the Wiccan way & my Christian domestication always prevented me from pursuing it. Now that I'm a little older( 21 mind you.) I believe I'm at a point where I can make this decision & feel okay about it.
The few practicing wiccans I know aren't reliable sources of information. I respect this coven & it's non-conventional ways but I have a strong desire to learn from a more experienced individual.
I'm fortunate enough to have a free wicca 101 course in the area. Have any of you ever attended as a beginner? If so did you feel informed & confident enough to start practicing on your own?
answer: No, but if it's free, go for it. Also get some books from reputable authors so you can compare what you're being taught and what has become established beliefs or practices in the community.
btw: avoid Raven Silverwolf and most of DJ Conway's stuff.
1)Ignore the fundies saying you’ll go to hell and are opening yourself up to demons. We don’t believe in either.
2)Get the book: Wicca, a Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham (Amazon.com used books is a great resource)
3)Avoid Silver Ravenwolf, DJ Conway and most Llewellyn books
4)Do NOT pay for lessons over the internet. You can’t ask for references. Do NOT give out personal information to anyone over the internet. Get a PO Box.
5)www.witchvox.com http://wicca.timerift.net
6)Learn and keep learning about various paths in paganism.
7) get the book: "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margo Adler (an older book that's a little dated, especially concerning Asatru but a good resource) - it gives an overview on a lot of pagan traditions.

Prayer For Beginners $9.95 Peter Kreeft brings his unique insights to this most important area of our spiritual lives. He claims he himself is still a beginner in prayer, and this book is for all those, like him, who feel that they are not good at praying but desire to become much better at it. Thus, Kreeft offers simple, but profound advice and practical steps for developing a prayer life based on the time-tested wisdom of the saints and great spiritual writers, especially the principles found in Brother Lawrence's classic, The Practice of the Presence of God . In short, straight-forward and unsentimental chapters, Kreeft covers all the key areas for understanding and developing that intimate form of communication with our Creator that we call prayer. He covers such areas as the necessity of prayer, various motives and methods, steps, patience, suffering, sin, faith, and grace. "There's no shortage of good doctrinal material today. But, for the post-Boomer generations, the burning question remains: How do I begin to pray? Peter Kreeft answers that question in a simple, direct way that will reach ordinary unchurched Americans " as well as devout Catholics who have hit a dry spell. This book can be a powerful tool in the new evangelization." "Mike Aquilina , Editor, New Covenant "This is the best short introduction to prayer I've read. Read it and pray."
