Father raising daughter?

I have a 2 year old daughter. Her Mother was killed in a crash. I understand wiping back to front, after bathroom calls, but there were many activities and products that women require. There are few to none resources for a father. I don't need to get smart overnight, but, what do I need to be prepared for and how can I be helpful. I've talked with my Doctor and got more help from his nurse. Please, ignorance is not bliss, when it comes to my daughter trusting my understanding of pads, or why she needs them. Don't call me stupid, believe i'm uneducated. Any information for helping this person grow and understand, as well as, helping a father raise a daughter will go into my resource bible.

You wipe the front in one direction and the back in the other direction- that's to avoid spreading bacteria.

You won't need to worry about getting pads until she's in her early teens, but when that time is near i'd say that it's pretty important that you talk to her about them around that time. I'm an only child and was raised just by my dad and I remember feeling pretty embarrassed when I had to tell him that I was getting periods. I would often save up my pocket money (we didn't have much money) just to pay for tampons each month to avoid any embarrassment.

When she's in her pre-teens, she'll start needing bras. It'll become pretty obvious when she'll need them. With girls, you start off with a training bra (which is sort of like a mini crop top), and when she starts forming a bit more, then she can start wearing proper bras. She'll need measuring in order to get the right size- there's enough information on the internet about how to measure for a bra.

As a kid, my dad bathed me, dropped me off and picked me up at the school gates. He cooked, cleaned the house, washed the laundry. He provided me with all my educational needs and tucked me into bed every night.

Not once did I feel like the outsider for being raised by a man. If you teach her to have a strong sense of morals, teach her right and wrong, and allow her her own freedom from time to time then you'll be fine.

If there's anything i've learnt though from being raised by my dad is that I never received the right amount of emotional support. If i was sad, I was told to keep a stiff upper lip and just smile- it would have been nice to have had a hug from time to time to comfort me.
I've always found that if a man has a problem- he wants an answer, but if a woman has a problem she wants to be comforted before hearing an answer.

Another thing to do would be to let her help you around the house. I found that my dad tried to take on both the roles of mother and father and tried to do EVERYTHING- cooking, cleaning, etc. Don't bring your girl thinking that men are like slaves.

If there's anything a girl is good at, it's wrapping her dad around her little finger. There may be a point in her life where she'll manage to persuade you to buy all sorts of unnecessary things for her. Don't be a fool. Buy what's necessary and teach her to appreciate what she has, but treat her now and then - all women love treats. :)

There became a point in my life where I *needed* a mother figure. Obviously, I can't tell you whether that is just me or a common thing amongst women raised by men, but I think that if I had the right emotional support, I wouldn't have been in that position. Complements were never passed in my home; body contact was minimal and feelings were kept private. That led to feelings of worthlessness, insecurity and low self esteem.

Remember the basics: Cut nails with clippers when nails get too long, brush hair every morning and night, make sure she's washed (with feminine scented shower gels, and shampoos & conditions her hair).

But above all, make sure she's happy. :)

Oh, and it's also important to continue to be a strong father figure but remain emotionally involved with her.

There will be ups and downs, but i'm sure that everything will be alright :) It takes a real man to bring up a woman.
