Balance sheet fundamentals... What books should I buy?
hello. i'm 17 years old and have been investing in the market now for 5 months. I just starting buying books on various investing techniques, however i am looking for a solid book on how to effectively look at a company's balance sheet and know everything i need.
I don't want an "investing for dummys" answer unless this is truly your "bible" for investing. Anything you have found very beneficial?
also, i already bought the arranged essays from Buffet to his shareholders.
imo, it may not even be worth learning your way around a balance sheet at this point. the US will be switching from US GAAP to IFRS pretty soon, so all the GAAP stuff you learn will be completely worthless.
But if you want something to read that won't go out of style, you might want to try:
One Up on Wall Street (Peter Lynch)
Security Analysis (Ben Graham)
The Intelligent Investor (Ben Graham)
Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits (Phillip Fisher)
for starters.
Edit for beancounter: It became official last August. IFRS will begin being implemented in 2010, though the switch won't be complete until 2014. Either way, IFRS are less punitive than GAAP, and I expect most companies to early adopt next year. I'm not saying that learning GAAP is irrelevant knowledge, but if you're going to learn something, it might as well be IFRS.
