In reading the commentary for Proverbs 4:20-27, it says " We must set a strict guard upon our souls; keep our hearts from doing hurt, and getting hurt."
What do you think God means by saying "keep our hearts from being hurt", do you think He means this so that we will have a more healthy heart to love others ? What do you think God means by "keeping our hearts from being hurt" in daily life. Thanks 
This comes from Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on the verse.
Keep yourself from situations where you know you could get hurt before you enter those situation.
Kind of goes with:
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."
Matthew 10:16 "Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves."
Be wise, but also do not seek to harm others.
