Bible Leadership
How many fruits are mentioned in this portion of the Bible?
Galatians 6 verse 22 to 23. And how aught we exhibit them, as a confirmation to the leadership of the holy spirit?
I like this question, thanks for asking it. There are nine of them listed in Galatians 5:22-23.
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
I thank God for each one of these listed, this is something that I have thought about often, because it seems that some people seem enthusiastic about some of these listed but not all. Most people desire to have love, joy, peace, gentleness, goodness, faith, and even temperance in their lives but what about meekness and longsuffering?
It is not something that we desire by nature, but it is something that we can embrace when we understand that this is God's will in our lives, and this is a part of our calling in Him. Each one of these is important and we should embrace all that God has prepared for us, even the things that may seem hard or uncomfortable for us at first, because God doesn't leave us comfortless but is with us every step of the way.
Every one of them that are mentioned should be considered, but I would like to share a little about the two that seem to be less mentioned than the others. Meekness and longsuffering, it is Christ in us that allows us to walk His will in our life out, we can't do it on our own. And if we are following the Lord and we are led by the Spirit we will have these things in our lives including meekness and longsuffering.
Meekness goes against what our flesh wants, if someone does us wrong then our flesh demands that we take action, that we give back to them what they have given to us, revenge. But God has called us to bless them that curse us, to do good to them that hate us, and to pray for those that despitefully use us and persecute us. ( Mat. 5:44 ) Vengeance belongs to God, He has promised that He would repay, we have to put that in His hands, and not try to take vengeance in our own hands. ( Romans 12:19 ) It is in our nature to try to strike back, to inflict on others what they have done to us or to even try to punish them more than what they have done to us, but it isn't God's will that we take vengeance, Jesus is our example in all things, including both meekness and longsuffering.
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Another example that I am thinking about is when Jesus said from the cross " Father forgive them, for they know not what they do " ( Luke 23:34 ) Meekness is enduring injury or afflictions without resentment, Jesus prayed for those that crucified Him, He prayed for their good. I can see how this works through love too, I see how all of the fruit of the Spirit all work together and are connected, and the Lord is the connection to them all. It is because of Him, that we love, and know what love is, it is Him that gives us peace and joy, it is in Him that we have faith, and each of the others named it is the Lord that works in us both to will and do of His good pleasure ( Phillipians 2:13) to God be all the glory for ever in Jesus precious name, Amen.
I wanted to say a few things about longsuffering, it is a part of our calling, we are called to suffer not for wrong doing, but to suffer for righteousness sake, Jesus is our example.
1 Peter 2:19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
I love these verses so much, Jesus is our example and look at verse 23, He committed Himself to Him that judges righteously. We have to do this too, we have to know that God sees everything that has happened, He has heard every word that is spoken, He is the Righteous Judge, we have to commit ourselves to Him, and know that we are in His hands and He will take care of it all. God will plead our case, He is able to make us stand, He will carry us through it all. I have such great comfort in the Lord even when things don't appear to be going right, or even if people tell lies on me, God knows the truth of it all, He knows our heart and the intentions of our heart. Even if no one else stands with you, when you have done no wrong and you suffer for righteousness sake, we can put it all in the Lord's hands, knowing that He is the Righteous Judge, He knows the truth of it all, and He will plead the cause of the righteous.
with much love and sincerity in Christ Jesus my Lord,
andrew
