Is it important to Know what you believe?
…“Be saved from this perverse generation.” --Acts 2:40
Bible teacher John MacArthur says that there are two major factors contributing to the powerlessness of churches in our day. The first is the ignorance of many people regarding the truth of God. The second is those who know the truth and yet fail to live by it. Trying to live in this sinful world without a clear message is like playing football without the ball. Our lives must reflect the message of Jesus Christ as members of God’s church. And you and I must be consistent in our obedience to the teachings of Christ through daily living. There must be an uncompromising commitment and thirst for truth. When you know what you believe and why you believe it, you can openly share with those who are lost without Jesus why you have so much joy and peace. There were many things the apostles did not know. But there was one thing they knew for sure…they were able to face all the odds because they knew the truth.
I'd even go one step further. You need to know why you believe it. All too often, especially in this forum, we have Christians who say they believe something, but cannot explain why.
Their belief is therefore based on what someone told them, rather than what they have learned for themselves. And it convinces no one, whether skeptic or believer.
