Jehovah's Witnesses: what version of the Bible is standard in your church?
If, say, you were to walk into a Borders and purchase a Bible for your own use, is there a particular translation or translations sanctioned by your church? Do you read just any old English version? Or is there a special edition that you believe is the correct one?
If you do have a special Bible or use a particular version, do you feel there are any differences between it and other Bibles? If so, what are they?
I'm not looking for sarcastic answers here, I'm just curious. Thanks!
When I became one of Jehovah's Witnesses, there was not a complete New World Translation available. It was still being translated/worked on.
So I learned the "truth" by means of the King James and the American Standard.
The truth is in any Bible. Some you may have to do a little more comparing and research, but it is there.
I like the New World Translation because of the rendering of Jehovah God's name where it belongs, and its efforts toward accuracy compared to the original Hebrew/Greek which I verify with an Interlinear.
I have about 30 different translations. All piled on my dining room table at times for study and reading.
Also think about this. The New World Translation is printed in less than 70 languages, some only in parts.
And yet there are hundreds, if not thousands of languages that people speak through out the world. When we do our preaching work in that country in their language, we use what ever translation is common to their language, and they get the truth from that translation.
Jehovah's Witnesses have become Jehovah's Witnesses using all translations out on the market.
The truth is the truth. Man can attempt to hide the truth of God's word with their mistakes, whether they be deliberate or not. But God's spirit will help honest hearted ones to see the truth it contains in any translation.
Because honest hearted ones will examine the Bible as a whole and not allow one scripture to be used as the complete basis of their belief.
God's word has over 75,000 verses. They are there for a reason. They are there to teach us the truth. We need to read them all.
