Bible Standard Version
Is there an edition of the English Standard Version (ESV) of the Apocrypha separate from the Bible?
I've ordered The Lutheran Study Bible from Concordia Publishing House, and so I don't want to order another copy of the ESV just to get the Apocrypha.
Where can I find this. All editions that I've been able to find are the ESV WITH Apocrypha not the ESV translation of the Apocrypha without the Scriptures.
I'M NOT LOOKING FOR OTHER TRANSLATIONS!!
I don't know where you will find one either, unfortunately.
You have pointed out what I also consider to be one of the main weaknesses of the LSB, which otherwise is an excellent resource.
Although Luther's Bible, and most Lutheran Bibles until the 20th century, included the Apocrypha, Lutherans in America are accustomed to generic 'protestant' translations where the Apocrypha are omitted.
I personally questioned one of the editors of the LSB (on his blog) why the Apochypha were not included. He responded that the editors personally had no problem with including them, but that it was felt they it would be a big publicity or pastoral problem if included- the perception (among the uninformed) would be that Lutherans were 'changing' the Bible, or 'adding' to it, so it was felt best to omit the Apocrypha to avoid confusion. Not a good reason in my opinion, but that is what the editors felt.
