Why doesn’t God add to the Bible today?

After all these years is the Bible really considered complete by God until the so-called Apocalypse? Why doesn’t he “dictate” anything new to someone living now? Why not add an appendix or an addendum perhaps? Some further readings might be helpful.

Maybe he does. Joe Smith (if that is his real name) thought so. The Baha'i faith thinks God is always sending new messengers to update the message as times and cultures evolve. We won't know until five hundred, or a thousand years from now, what the collected, "inspired" canon may look like. When people wrote down the books that became the Bible, it wasn't for hundreds of years until folks decided which ones to count as "inspired" and which ones to leave by the wayside.

Lacking the faith that Jesus is truly, physically present in the Eucharist, Catholics today are often unable to understand the purpose of the Mass and of the ordained priesthood. Fr. Hardon discusses the serious implications of this decreasing faith in the Real Presence and how it is linked to the crisis in the priesthood today. ' In With Us Today , Fr. Hardon: ' ' Examines the history of Eucharistic doctrine, particularly through the heresies that began in the tenth century and expanded in the Reformation period ' Concisely explains Church teaching about'transubstantation"the complete change of the substance of the bread and wine into Christ's Body and Blood. ' Explores how our devotion to the Holy Eucharist will transform all aspects of our relationship with Jesus ' ' With Us Today reminds all Catholics of the incredible gift we have in the Eucharist, and how each us of must share our faith in the Real Presence with others and be a part of the new era of Eucharistic devotion. In His saints, God is manifest as goodness, power and truth. The variety of saints reflects the infinite beauty and love of the God whose image they most perfectly reflect. This collection of portraits of the lives of twelve saints, many less well-known, focuses on how each of these particular men and women have a specific message that is significant for those living in our challenging times. Though they lived in other times, these twelve saints faced problems similar in many ways to those of our present day. Among the twelve featured here are Paschal Baylon, saint of the Eucharist; Margaret Clitherow, a mother and martyr; Isidore, a farmer; Margaret of Castello, an outcast; Gemma Galgani, a lay stigmatist; Robert Southwell, a poet, and six more. Ivan Innerst presents a true and lifelike picture of each saint whose life has more inspiration to offer today's Christian than has previously been widely known. Each saint has something to share on a range of topical questions for today to help us better live the Gospel message. Ivan Innerst , a convert to Catholicism, worked as a journalist and served on the Journalism and English faculties of four universities. He is the author of a novella, short stories, and religious commentary in national Catholic periodicals. He lives in New Mexico.

What do Christians believe? What gives meaning to our life? What is the purpose of life? The Christian answer to these questions is found in the Creed, in the profession of faith. But what do the articles of this confession actually mean? And how to they affect our lives? 'Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, takes a fresh look at these timeless questions. This work is a reflection of the profound, personal insights of Benedict XVI, but also of the great foundations of Christianity: faith, hope, and charity. 'Ratzinger writes eloquently and persuasively about the importance for followers of Christ to understand well what they believe so one can live as a serious Christian in today's secular world. He talks in depth about the true meaning of faith, hope, and love"the love of God and the love of neighbor. He also discusses the crucial importance of a lived faith, for the believer himself as well as being a witness for our age, and striving to bring faith in line with the present age that has veered off into rampant secularism and materialism. ''"In our generation the Christian Faith finds itself in a much deeper crisis than at any other time in the past. In this situation it is no solution to shut our eyes in fear in the face of pressing problems, or to simply pass over them. If faith is to survive this age, then it must be lived, and above all, lived in this age. And this is possible only if a manifestation of faith is shown to have value for our present day, by growing to knowledge and fulfillment."' "Pope Benedict XVI
