Bible Translation
Do U think those who have studied a foreign language understand how semantic domains impact Bible translation?
(Example: That "translation equivalents" between languages often involve different "scopes" of semantic domain in the source versus target language? Or do you think that the people tend to study languages too similar to their own native language such that such differences aren't as apparent to them as those between different language families, such as Biblical Hebrew and modern English?)
For the most part, this has little effect on what is translated in the bible. However, there are tools you could use (such as Strongs Greek and Hebrew dictionary) to go back to the source.
In the bible that I read, there's usually a footnote indicating what the original Greek/Hebrew word was in cases where there isn't a 1:1 translation (such as Love (phillios, agapeo, etc.), Hell, etc.)
