Black Bible Experience
Why do people say religion doesn't matter in politics? Huckabee wins the Bible belt...Romney wins Utah?
Huckabee wins the southern Bible belt states.
Romney wins predominantly Mormon, Utah, and northern states that are not evangelical.
The majority of self-described evangelicals voted for Huckabee.
The majority of women voted for Hillary
The majority of blacks voted for Obama
Are we a country divided by religion, gender and race? Are we blinded to a candidates intellect, experience or plans for the country.....
Your thoughts?
People who say religion doesn't matter in politics are idiots. Religion, theoretically speaking, shouldn't matter in politics. But in truth, it does, always has, and maybe always will?
Religion used to be the backbone of solidarity among leadership. The authority of the church and the authority of the government can cause division among loyalties that should be separate issues. This is also true of race, gender, and even conceived notions of perception in regards to a candidate's character.
The truth in the end is that we are beings who make decisions on any number of factors. Politicians are willing to put forth whatever angle they can in order to garner more votes in their corner, and where we choose to put our loyalties is up to us. Most often people can divide these into big-ticket items like race, gender, so forth. Of course, the main issue is that these should have nothing to do with the election process. It's unrealistic though to expect that this will suddenly change. I don't even really have an idea on how to get it to change, either. The past is littered with stories where these dividing lines that had little to nothing to do with their ability to lead have caused oppression and ruin.
We're a nation divided, and to try to map how we are divided and how we choose to divide ourselves is nearly impossible. My only suggestion would be to encourage people to read up on the candidates, encourage more people to vote, and make sure to do your best to vote on who you believe is most qualified for the JOB. It's an interview, and the voter is the employer while the candidates should be the servant. It's flipped itself around often, so bear that in mind as well.
