Blackberry Bible
If a sinful action should be avoided, why does God, through the Bible, NOT state these things directly?
For example, the act of sending text messages while driving is a bad idea, particularly if it leads to the driver barrelling into a pedestrian while on their Blackberry updating their Twitter page. Arguably, this act could be seen as sin, since it leads to the death of another human being due to carelessness.
However, in the days the current, quite archaic versions of scripture were written, there was no such thing as a Blackberry, a car, nor paved streets.
If the Bible truly is the word of God, why are all such acts, and their related means and methods, not clearly spelled out? Surely, if God exists, wrote the Bible, and exists today somewhere in heaven, It would provide Its followers with up-to-date guidelines for living according to Its words?
That's why He gave us a brain. And, although some things are not spelled out word-for-word, the principles are still there.
God has told us "thou shalt not kill". The word for "kill" here, referrers to killing without just cause. So, anything that would lead us to kill someone...such as driving and texting...would be "sin".
It would take more books then the world could hold if God was to spell out word-for-word, everything that could possibly be a sin.
