Is the reason Catholics started printing their bibles in English after the Protestants did really obvious…?
…but no Catholic ever talks about it? I mean, the Catholics were concerned about losing their flock, weren’t they? The Protestants were winning Catholics over to their side in their millions, right? Just by having a bible printed in the language of the people and printed in very large numbers. The Protestants were telling Catholics, “If you join our church, you can have a bible all of your own and printed in a language that you can read,” and this simple sales tactic worked like a charm. So the Catholics responded to this by ending their practice of having bible printed in a dead language that almost no one besides them understand; they printed bibles in the language that their flock could read and they too gave them their own bibles to take home, right?
