Engagement and ethnic parents expectations, help!?
My partner and I want to take the next step. His parents are great with it, but mine -- are so so.
My partner is half Italian, half Greek and a Catholic. I am a Turkish Muslim. Not only are our cultures different but religions too. We, as a couple, have no problem with it.
My partner and I have already chosen out a ring. And I am waiting for his proposal *blushes*. However, first he has to ask permission off my parents, as this is customary in ethnic cultures. With Turks, the guy's family has to ask the girl's family for the 'girl's hand in marriage'. However, I dont want his family involved as I am freaked my parents will put down rules -- like religious wants, conversions etc.
I am so stressed. How should I approach my parents in letting them know I want to get engaged with my partner? and that I do not want religion to play ANY part in this cause my partner and I haven't made a big deal of relgion anyways?
Say religion is not a issue and i really like him.
