I am curious to know what role does Mary mother of Jesus have within the Roman Catholic Church?
I am not Catholic, but I want to know more about the Catholic church. Thank you.
I'm a former Catholic.
The role of Mary is somewhat ambiguous. She is not officially recognized as a goddess, but she takes the place that a mother goddess has in many polytheistic religions. Prayers are directed to her, particularly those pertaining to family issues and women's issues. Many Catholic women and a lesser number of Catholic men have a strong devotion to her. This kind of devotion is officially encouraged, and the official forms come very close to outright worship of her as a goddess.
One of her titles is Mother of God. She's like the fourth person of the Holy Trinity.
