Catholic Mass Revealed
Catholics only please [ or else all other Christians will have to get defensive
]?
Have you ever been to mass and just at an instance, you experience a great feeling that seems to reveal in your head "the Catholic Church is the true Church, it has to be" or something similar?
Today---Trinity Sunday---we had 5 Baptisms, and as Father talked about what it meant to be Baptised, into the faith community, and into the Church, I just experienced a great feeling that all non-Catholic Christians are missing out on.
>>I meant "baptized" with a "z"<<
That's not making God exclusive.
Think of it this way:
The Church: Catholic Church
Ecclesiastical Communites: All Protestant sects.
Yes. That's one of the reasons I'm still a Catholic after "testing out" various other religions and denominations.
With me, it wasn't so much a feeling as a thought... a kind of a priori knowledge that sprang up in me, that recognizes the Church, for all its faults and shortcomings, as holding the fullness of God's truth through Jesus.

On Being Catholic $14.95 In his first full-length book since converting to Roman Catholicism over ten years ago, Thomas Howard presents his wonderful, refreshing insights on the "glad tidings" of the deeper meaning of Catholic piety, dogma, spirituality, vision and practice, rendered in his unique style of prose for which he is well-known. The book's chapters take the form of lay meditations on Catholic teaching and practice, opening up in practical and simple terms the richness at work in virtually every detail of Catholic prayer, piety, liturgy and experience. "Tom Howard has done it again. With gentle and compelling wisdom, he shows the Catholic faith for what it is, the grandeur of the biblical gospel and a reflection of the immensity of God's wisdom and grace. On Being Catholic is an apologetic and literary gem." "Scott Hahn, Ph.D. "Would it be brash to say that Thomas Howard is an American counterpart of C.S. Lewis? I think not. Thomas Howard's intelligent, literate and erudite approach to the experience of faith and all of the challenges that faith brings will be enlightening to anyone who takes the Gospel seriously." "Fr. Benedict Groeschel, C.F.R. "Written with the realistic intelligence of a living faith, this book is a refreshing and renewing document. A beautiful book of great relevance and lasting value . . . so truly Catholic it makes one rejoice greatly." " Most Rev. Christoph Sch...nborn "I heartily recommend this inspiring and insightful presentation on being Catholic, particularly as it centers on the Mass. Howard not only captures the substance of each stage in the Eucharistic liturgy, but ties it effectively to heavenly worship with words that sing of beauty in worship. The whole presentation of Catholic belief is set in a striking and inspiring contrast with the bleakness of contemporary culture." " Rev. Michael Scanlan, T.O.R. Thomas Howard , a Professor of English at St. John's Seminary in Brighton, Mass., is the author of numerous books on various Christian themes including Chance or the Dance? and Hallowed Be This House . The Mass and Modernity $17.95 Many in the Church have accepted modernity in their effort to speak to the modern world, and not nearly enough attention has been given to trying to disentangle the complex of ideas and half-formulated convictions that constitute this mind-set which is in fact contrary to Christianity. 'The first aim of this book is to examine the origins and present day influence of modernity, and then to argue that there is nothing in the Christian's concern for the modern world that requires accepting this damaging mind-set in connection with the highest form of worship, the Mass. 'The second aim of the book is to show that that the sources of a genuine liturgical renewal are to be found in a heightened sense of the centrality of the Mass and a return to a theology compatible with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. ' '???Fr. Robinson's book is a philosopher's gift to the Catholic liturgy. He provides a thoroughly lucid account of the climate of ideas which handicaps the celebration of Catholic worship in the modern world. This is a diagnosis which shows just how far reaching must be the cure.???'' "Fr. Aidan Nichols, Author, Looking at the Liturgy' ' ' |

The Catholic Church and the Bible $11.95 Are Catholics biblical illiterates? So goes the frequent question, proving that myths die hard. But Catholics ought to be able to answer the charge made by many non-Catholics in this regard. This book is a response to Fundamentalist critics and an explanation of the Catholic biblical tradition. The Catholic Church and the Bible is a significant scriptural study guide, published from a Catholic perspective and particularly keyed to the new Catechism of the Catholic Church. The well-planned, straight-forward text is clearly outlined to make information easy to find and understand. Main topics include: - The Catholic understanding of the Bible - God's Word and its purpose in the Church - A biblical theology of the Mass, the place of the Bible in the Sacred Liturgy - A question-and-answer section that deals with pertinent and popular inquiries made by Catholics and non-Catholics alike This work should be heartily welcomed by both clergy and laity, for Father Stravinskas sheds new light on Catholic Bible study by writing with candor, clarity and scriptural backing. This is ideal for high schools and RCIA programs. "An excellent tool for the Catholic apologist. The reader has everything in one place: pithy answers plus biblical and magisterial citations. Fr. Stravinskas is the best priest-apologist in the country." "Karl Keating, Author, Catholicism and Fundamentalism Fr. Peter M.J. Stravinskas is the well-known editor of the The Catholic Answer magazine, a contributing editor to National Catholic Register , and has written over 500 articles for numerous Catholic publications. |
