How would you respond to a Catholic teacher who rebuked a student about the word infallible ?
The teacher asked a student to use the word infallible in a sentence and the student said "the Bible is infallible" so the Catholic High School teacher said "the Bible is only a collection of stories. Only the Pope is infallible."
Obviously, the teacher doesn't know his own Catholic faith very well. The Bible IS infallible. The Church has always held this to be true.
As for the Pope, he speaks infallibly only in very specific circumstances, i.e. when he makes an "ex cathedra" statement from the chair of Peter on a matter of faith and morals.
And as you can see from the answers here, most people are attacking a "straw man." They are protesting something about the Church that isn't even true (i.e. "the Pope is perfect" and "the Pope never sins"). And this is how the ignorance keeps spreading.....
