I applied for early action and got into Catholic University of America and now I want to do the honors program. Since my acceptance letter didn't say anything about the honors program am I not in? Or do I have to apply separately? Basically, how can I get into the honors program?

You should apply for it. Had you been part of the program the acceptance letter would have mentioned it./

Treasury of Catholic Wisdom

Treasury of Catholic Wisdom

The Treasury of Catholic Wisdom is a Catholic library in miniature, a one-volume microcosm of what the Church's great minds have thought and said since the apostolic age. Indeed, in The Treasury of Catholic Wisdom , noted theologian Fr. John A. Hardon has compiled the works of thirty-three of the greatest Catholic thinkers and writers, representing every period of the Church's passage through time, from the beginnings of Christianity to the present day. Here are men and women, bishops and priests, religious and the laity "whose native talents were elevated by the supernatural light that God reserves for those who are most submissive to His will." Included in this extraordinary and fascinating anthology are the works of the early saints, such as Gregory, Basil, Augustine, John Chrysostom, Patrick, Bernard Francis, and Thomas Aquinas. Here, too, are the writings of the great reformers Ignatius, Catherine of Siena, and Teresa of Avila; the mystic John of the Cross; the practical wisdom of Francis de Sales, Louis de Montfort, and Peter Julian Eymard; and the modern-day reflections of Gerard Manley Hopkins, Francis Thompson, Therese of Lisieux, G.K. Chesterton, and Fulton J. Sheen. The Treasury of Catholic Wisdom is a comprehensive anthology of the outstanding Catholic literature from the first century to modern times. Mystics and martyrs, philosophers and theologians, poets and prose writers are quoted at length and in depth. They are truly representative of the spirit and substance of Catholicism in its paradox of phenomenal stability and versatility over the centuries. Fr. Hardon has selected those writings which are representative of the thought and philosophy of each contributor, and has carefully chosen excerpts which are not always the most familiar. Thus, his volume provides not only a fresh collection of the best of Catholic wisdom, but also a uniquely comprehensive work which offers enlightenment and faith for generations of readers. John A. Hardon, S.J. , holds a master's degree in philosophy from Loyola University and a doctorate in theology from the Gregorian University in Rome. He is the author of The Catholic Catechism and many other books. Fr. Hardon is also a founder of the Catholic Home Study Institute, a correspondence school which operates under pontifical approval.

Two experienced home schooling moms present a very thorough, balanced and practical guide to both the merits of home , as well as the important ideas, resources and curriculums to home school. Hahn and Hasson cover all aspects - statistics supporting home schooling's excellence, the nitty-gritty of lesson plans, and hundreds of ways to keep the fun in (and boredom out) of learning. Most importantly, they offer compelling advice and inspiration for parents as they undertake their child's religious, moral and intellectual formation. This is a reliable guide for Catholic parents who want to stay close to the heart of the church in the schooling of their children. The authors demonstrate that home schooling is not a fringe movement on the Church's periphery, but it is squarely based on Catholic teachings drawn from Sacred Scripture, natural law, and the writings of saints and popes. Readers will find the right combination of secular and sacred, theoretical and practical. Whether you are looking for advice and encouragement, language resources, aids for teaching multiplication or phonics - or the Ten Commandments - this book is sure to be a very functional tool. ''"This book gives practical clothing to the truth that there are as many ways to home school successfully as there are homes in which to school. It helps us place our Catholic faith squarely at the heart of our curriculums. In addition to Kimberly and Mary's helpful advice and resources, this far ranging book also turns to numerous veteran home schoolers for valuable recommendations." " Laura Berquist, Author, Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum '' "Hahn and Hasson provide strong arguments backed by solid documentation to reassure the timid and convince even doubters that the best place to educate their children in a Catholic culture today is at home." For all parents it offers a rich fund of insights on how to provide a proper formation for their children and how to strengthen their families." " Charles E. Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic

Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic

$14.95

David Currie was raised in a devout Christian family whose father was a fundamentalist preacher and both parents teachers at Moody Bible Institute. Currie's whole upbringing was immersed in the life of fundamentalist Protestantism - theology professors, seminary presidents and founders of evangelical mission agencies were frequent guests at his family dinner table. Currie received a degree from Trinity International University and studied in the Masters of Divinity program. This book was written as an explanation to his fundamentalist and evangelical friends and family about why he became a Roman Catholic. Currie presents a very lucid, systematic and intelligible account of the reasons for his conversion to the ancient Church that Christ founded. He gives a detailed discussion of the important theological and doctrinal beliefs Catholic and evangelicals hold in common, as well as the key doctrines that separate us, particularly the Eucharist, the Pope, and Mary. "David Currie has written what may turn out to be the work on this nettlesome topic of Evangelicals being received into the Catholic Church. With great charity and lucidity, he pursues every conceivable topic - biblical, ecclesiological, theological, and historical - that arises in the discussions on this matter." "Thomas Howard, Author, Evangelical is Not Enough "Currie has given us a work which is eminently intelligible, readable and personal. This book makes an especially happy marriage of the 'head' and the 'heart' in explaining the when, the why and the how of his pilgrimage. It should serve as a paradigm for the movement of 'Everyman' toward God and the Church His divine Son founded." "Rev. Peter M.J. Stravinskas, Editor, The Catholic Answer "Currie's book is a must read. Seldom is something so deep explained so clearly as Currie does in this wonderful work. Get it and get a copy for a friend." " Scott Hahn, Author, Rome Sweet Home ''

How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization

In the wake of Pope John Paul II's death, many are asking: What is the future of the Catholic Church? Given its recent scandals, students of theology might discount its influence on Western civilization and simply cast it off as a corrupt religion. That would be a big mistake; as New York Times bestselling author Thomas Woods chronicles in his book, the Church has had a pivotal role in shaping Western civilization for the last two thousand years. '' How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization uncovers the lost truth of the Church's contributions to our history, including: ' ' How the father of atomic theory, the father of aviation, and the father of Egyptology were all Catholic priests ' How Catholic priests developed the idea of free-market economics five hundred years before Adam Smith ' How the Catholic Church was the great defender of the sanctity of human life and the individual against the state ' How the Church invented charitable work"and the charitable spirit"as we know it in the Western world ' How the Church bestowed the most unique gift to the World"what we now know as the university ' 'In this magnificent volume, students and faithful alike will come to comprehend the Catholic Church's monumental impact on society and western civilization as a whole.'' '???Prof. Woods has put the Catholic Church squarely back where it should be: at the center of the development of the values, ideas, science, laws, and institutions which constitute what we call Western civilization.???
