What does this Bible verse mean?
Ezekiel 5:10 "Therefore in your midst fathers will eat their children, and children will eat their fathers. I will inflict punishment on you and will scatter all your survivors to the winds." -NIV
Is this literal? What does it mean exactly?
Yes it is literal.
This actually was a warning given by God in Deuteronomy 28 and was fulfilled literally in the siege of Samaria (II Kings 6:24-31), and I believe also in the siege of Jerusalem, which must be what this is referring to, Ezekiel being the prophet among the exiled remnant in Babylon, while some of the Jews remained in Jerusalem.
I believe it was also literally fulfilled in the siege of Jerusalem by Titus in 70 A.D. as recorded by Josephus.
