question about St. Andrew Daily Missal book?
being a catholic, I have been looking at books that I can purchase as I attend a traditional latin mass with my girlfriend and her family. I have been looking at the St. Andrew Daily Missal, what are the different colored ribbons for and what are their meanings..
The Roman Catholic Missal is a liturgical book outlining the instructions and prayers necessary for the celebration of the Catholic Mass throughout the year. The word Missal is taken from the Latin word “missa”, meaning sent. Some Catholic Missals are daily, weekly or strictly Sunday Missals.
The Saint Andrew Daily Missal has long been considered the most complete traditional Latin-English missal in print.
They are just ribbon markers - but are liturgically colored (i.e. purple for advent, white for easter, etc.)

Daily Readings in Catholic Classics $17.95 "Don't read good books"read the best books," is what a nun taught Fr. Rawley Myers as a youth. Thus, he has gathered together in this very unique volume a reading for each day of the year from some of the greatest Catholic books and writers in Church history, many in this century. Myers taps into the rich treasury of outstanding Catholic literature, often neglected in today's busy world, and he provides a wonderful selection of thoughts and meditations that are both intellectually stimulating and spiritually rewarding.'' Drawing on the writings of thirty-four famous Catholic authors, this book ranges from the thoughts of Doctors of the Church like Saint Augustine, Saint Teresa of Avila and Saint Thomas Aquinas, to classic authors like Saint Francis de Sales, Thomas ' Kempis, and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, to popular 20th century spiritual guides like Bishop Fulton Sheen, Thomas Merton and Romano Guardini and, finally, the writings of a group of famous modern converts like G. K. Chesterton, Hilaire Belloc, Ronald Knox and John Henry Newman. They enlighten our minds, inflame our hearts and strengthen our souls with selections that are easily digestible and whet the appetite for more of the impressive heritage of Catholic theological and philosophical reflection. '' "Fr. Myers has done American Catholics a great service in making available to them this anthology of some of the finest thinkers in the history of the Church. The format is ideal for personal reading and meditation, group reflection, or even as a way of beginning a day in a Catholic high school or college." " Fr. Peter Stravinskas , Editor, The Catholic Answer '' "Fr. Myers has put together a book of selections from the best authors there are. Reflecting the dignity of the ancient Faith, this work challenges the mind again and again, and it speaks 'the spirit of Catholicism."' " Thomas Howard, Author, Chance or the Dance |

Living the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Vol. 1 $10.95 Bishop Sch...nborn, the editor of the monumental Catechism of the Catholic Church , a worldwide best seller, provides a brief and profound commentary on the first part of the Catechism, the Creed. Sch...nborn gives an incisive, detailed analysis of the Creed, providing a specific meditation for each week of the year on how to better live the Catholic faith as expressed in the Creed and explained in the Catechism. Through these 52 meditations, Sch...nborn's hope is for the reader to not just have a better grasp of Catholic doctrine and belief, but especially to grow in a greater love of and devotion to the person of Jesus Christ. "Faith is whole. It has only one heart, one center: Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. Christ must therefore also be the center of catechesis whose object is 'putting people...in communion...with Jesus Christ: only he can lead us to the love of the Father in the Spirit and make us share in the life of the Holy Trinity' (CCC 426), for 'in him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge' (Col 2:3). In a certain sense, the 'essential elements of the faith' have their origin in a treasury of the heart of Jesus." -Bishop Christoph Sch...nborn "A masterpiece of thoughtfulness and clarity in explaining the way of Jesus. Sch...nborn teaches what Jesus taught about God and the way to Heaven. An outstanding book." -Fr. Rawley Myers, Author, Daily Readings in Catholic Classics Christoph Sch...nborn, Bishop of Vienna, Austria, is a Dominican priest who, in addition to editing the Catechism of the Catholic Church , is the author of numerous books including From Death to Life and Introduction to the Catechism of the Catholic Church . Catholic Christianity $17.95 For the first time in 400 years the Catholic Church has authorized an official universal catechism which instantly became an international best-seller, the Catechism of the Catholic Church . Using this official Catechism, the highly-regarded author and professor Peter Kreeft presents a complete compendium of all the major beliefs of Catholicism written in his readable and concise style. Since the Catechism of the Catholic Church was written for the express purpose of grounding and fostering catechisms based on it for local needs and ordinary readers, Kreeft does just that, offering a thorough summary of Catholic doctrine, morality, and worship in a popular format with less technical language. He presents a systematic, organic synthesis of the essential and fundamental Catholic teachings in the light of the Second Vatican Council and the whole of the Church's Tradition. This book is the most thorough, complete and popular catechetical summary of Catholic belief in print that is based on the universal Catechism. "In Catholic Christianity , Peter Kreeft has taken the core of the Catechism's teaching and has represented it in his pithy and winning style. The result is the best entree to the Catechism yet-and therefore the best entree to the Catholic faith." "Karl Keating Author, What Catholics Really Believe "Peter Kreeft's work is: 1) unfailingly brilliant 2) intellectually agile 3) astonishingly perspicacious 4) gloriously orthodox 5) Chestertonian-ly aphoristic. Buy and read this book, and be instructed and delighted." "Thomas Howard Author, On Being Catholic "As an apologist who speaks at many seminars and conferences across the country I am often asked what book I would recommend for an adult catechetics class. I always find myself recommending three our four books rather than one. No longer. This is the ONE book I've been looking for! Dr. Kreeft gives a summation of our Catholic Faith based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church that is filled with bite-sized morsels of truth and producing a veritable feast of faith!" "Tim Staples Radio Host and Apologist Peter Kreeft, Ph.D., a Professor of Philosophy at Boston College, is a regular contributor to several Catholic publications, and is the best-selling author of over 25 books including Prayer for Beginners, Back to Virtue, A Refutation of Moral Relativism, Heaven the Heart's Deepest Longing, and Fundamentals of the Faith . The Courage to Be Catholic $15.95 Bestselling author George Weigel (Witness to Hope: A Biography of John Paul II) argues that the path to genuine Catholic reform does not lie in accommodating the truth to the spirit of the age, but in a renewed commitment to living the fullness of the Catholic faith. Weigel situates the current crisis of sexual abuse and episcopal malfeasance in the context of recent Catholic history. With unflinching honesty, he analyzes the Church's failure to embrace the great spiritual promise of Vatican II, resulting in the steady surrender to liberal culture. Weigel exposes the patterns of dissent entrenched in seminaries, among priests, and the bishops who failed their flocks. He then gives a solid agenda for true reform and holiness. |
