Fellow Catholics, what top 5 nationalities would you want a future Pope to be from, and for what reasons?

I would like countries where we never had a Pope, as opposed to countries like Italy, Germany, Spain, etc.

My choices are:

5. The Philippines (Because wouldn't it be great to have an Asian pope?)
4. An African country (not a specific one, but this is quite likely)
3. Mexico or another Latin American country (given the presence of the Church there)
2. Ireland (given the long history of Catholicism in Ireland)
1. The United States (because that would be monumental)

I pretty much agree with your assessment, but I'd put it in reverse order and put Africa ahead of the Philipines.

I recall that the last round, after Pope John Paul the 2nds death, There was an African Cardinal who almost became Pope.
I think that would TRULY inspire Africa and be a good PR move as well (though I know Pope's aren't decided based on PR)

The US would be NICE, but come on.. we have enough influence and prominence in the world... We don't need a Pope.

What about FRANCE -- they USE to be VERY Catholic, but are now only about 70%. Like much of Europe they are falling into Agnosticism and Atheism. Maybe French Pope would re-invigorate Catholicism in France???
