Peterson Bible
What do you think of the Message Bible by Eugene Peterson?
I find it much easier to understand than other versions. It also does away with the scare factor. Some parts make me laugh such as in Mathew when it says "Jesus really went for the jugular on this one".
It's still a bible but it's more light hearted. It's written in a way that's more understandable and not all doom and gloom. I'm not a Christian but still find it an interesting read.
I llok at it this way. If there was a god I'm sure he would want to reach people in a way that's best for them as an individual. People are different but whatever way they were reading I'm sure he wouldn't mind.
I agree Sasi. It's obviously not going to be suitable for those who like to preach hell and damnation but each to their own.
It's a brilliant way of rendering the Bible in modern language that young people can identify with. Peterson is a linguist and a scholar and a poet; his love of words shines through but he does not take undue liberties because he reveres the word of God as sacred. It is not a literal translation, but a paraphrase. Bear that in mind, and you will read it with profit. The elimination of verses is a particularly good idea. They were never there in the original manuscripts!
