What would you have done in this awkward situation?
Yesterday we went to the mountains to visit family members. Several people were there around 30. All of the sudden everyone kinda started to gather around up close to me, this lady opened her purse and pulled out a Cheerios Box, or so I thought, turned out to be a covering for her bible. And she started, went on and on, and on some more. She spoke in Spanish and I understood not a word. One the way home I asked what he hell was that all about. The response was Oh she does that all of the time, you'll get used to it. I feel that I should have been warned ahead of time. Agree or Disagree - me no like crazy people.
That's funny, "a Cheerios Box". The picture in my mind makes me laugh. But seriously, I probably would have thought, "this is a joke, right?" I more than likely would have started laughing.
I think what she did was inappropriate, and insulting. Frankly, I'm surprised the others feed into this behavior. If she insists on spouting off about her own personal beliefs (in a language you cannot even understand) , you are certainly under no moral, ethical, or etiquette obligations to stand there and be a part of it.
Next time, politely excuse yourself and go find something enjoyable to do. Maybe others will "see the light" and eventually follow your lead. If no one is there to listen, she can preach to the air.
