Why quote Thomas Paine as a skeptic of the bible?
Why quote Thomas Paine as a skeptic of the bible (ie. skepticsannotatedbible web page) when Thomas Paine was perhaps the single most influential writer of the time in persuading colonists to break away from the king of england and form a new Country by using the Bible as source material to prove his point? (see Common Sense by Thomas Paine Feb 14, 1776)
I've only read Common Sense, in college, and used it to prove that (separation of church and state as we know it is bull) the people and founding fathers were intent on creating a christian nation. The separation clause was between christian/protestant churches and the government not being involved in them, not the other way around, and also not just any religion man came up with.
So he was a dishonest liar?
and we are to trust and quote his words?
