Toddler Bible Stories
Does it make me a bad mother to only read one book to my toddler and baby a day?
My toddler is so unfocused on reading to begin with, so I can usually only manage one book for story time a day. My youngest could let me read books to her all day though.
I try to pick out a good long story (maybe a Dr. Seuss book or a story from My First Bible) so that the quality of the story and the learning side of it is accounted for. Does it make me a "bad" mom to only get to read one book/story a day to my kids? How do encourage reading when really my son doesn't sit still or stay interested?
Ok maybe "bad mom" wasn't the term to use... Not sure how else to describe it though. Thanks all!
Of course it doesn't.
But if you're looking for ways to encourage reading, I'd suggest short stories at various times throughout the day, including when they're least apt to be squirming around (like during lunch or bathtime or something). It's also okay to talk about a book without reading it, per se. My 3-year-old took a while to get excited about listening to stories, but he was always happy to page through books looking for trucks, lol. And I think that time we spent doing that built up his interest, so that now he's a good listener for real stories.
