Ideas for our womens group to help other women in our small country town?
Our womens bible study group (there's about 6 of us in total) meet each week and the last week of each month we try to do something to help other women (not necessarily women just from our church)within our small town community.
In the past we have cooked meals for some ladies, had a housework type busy-bee, weeded garden beds, things like that which only take an hour or two for us, but are a big relief for women with a lot on their plate and a with a brief need for help in our town.
However we are running out of new ideas and new ways we could reach out to women and make some kind of brief but positive difference in their life in their time of need.
We don't have any kind of sponsorship or anything to help pay for whatever activities we do, we volunteer our time and any costs. Nor do we want to advertise what we are doing and in doing so make a big fuss about what we do - the idea is we simply meet a need and help somebody.
Any ideas which might help us do that?
Our town has a project (I don't know if it community sponsored or church sponsored) but they perform a type of "caring caller" program whereby someone is assigned to call a particular individual everyday. Usually the called person is a shut-in or home aloner without regular daily contact with family or friends. A set time each day is decided upon for the contact. It just gives the homebound person the security of a regular check in. The caller will have a secondary number to call if she does not get a response on the second try. You could rotate this activity among members so that it would not take the time of only a few. This service could encompass your entire town since it is so small. God loves you for all you do!
